Ray-Ban RB4068: the big square that stays put on your face

There are two ways to get sunglasses right. The first is to pick a frame that does not wear you; the second is to have a lens that actually lets you see. The RB4068 does both, which is why it has sold for years without any campaign: a 60 mm lens, 43 mm of height and an injected frame with high shoulders that covers the whole eye socket.

This is a real square, not a disguised rectangle. The front is thick, the bridge has a slight curve and the temples leave almost straight, so the frame rests on the temple and the nose at the same time. On a round face that lengthens; on a square face it tidies; on a long face it balances. If you have never worn a lens this big, the first day surprises you: you see out of the sides, not just the centre.

This listing is the Havana finish with Brown Polarized lenses, code 642/57. The code is what you need if you ever order a spare part: it is printed inside the temple and it identifies the exact colour of your frame.

What you notice when you wear it

That it does not move. It is the first thing everybody says when they bend down or turn their head. The injected front is light for its size (around 30 g) and the temples sit close to the head, with none of that gap behind the ear that makes a frame wobble.

That the lens is genuinely big. With 43 mm of height, sun does not come in over the top or from the side. On a small lens the light leaks past your brow and your eyes are tired by mid afternoon; here that does not happen.

That the Brown Polarized lens works for you. It is marrón polarizada: el filtro polarizado corta el reflejo del asfalto, del agua y del capó, y el tono marrón sube el contraste sin oscurecer de más. And a Ray-Ban lens is not the same as a tinted blank: the tint goes into the mass, not into a coating that wears off.

That it does not pinch the bridge. The bridge is 17 mm, the width that lets the frame rest without digging in. If your nose is narrow, we adjust it in the workshop in two minutes.

That you can wear it all day. It is a sun frame with a single-frame vocation: the car, the street and the terrace, and it goes with almost everything because the front is clean, with no studs or decoration.

Size 60 is the lens width: the number before the square printed inside the temple. If your current frame says another figure, this is not your size.

The RB4068 takes prescription lenses and it is one of the frames we glaze most, because the large front leaves plenty of room for the reading zone. We use genuine Ray-Ban lenses, single vision or progressive, with the Ray-Ban logo etched into the right lens and the RB print on the left. We can also glaze a frame you already own: bring it in, we measure and tell you whether it is worth it.

Frequently asked questions

What size is it? Size 60: 60 mm lens, 17 mm bridge and 130 mm temple. It is the only size in this model; there is no 55 or 65.

Is it for men or women? Ray-Ban lists it as a women's frame, but it is a big square that works on wide faces of either sex. If in doubt, measure the width of your current frame: around 62 mm of front and this one fits.

Are the lenses polarised? It depends on the code. The 642/57 carries Brown Polarized: lente polarizada de verdad, con filtro que corta el reflejo. If you want polarised and this one is not, look at the lens list for the model: polarised finishes have their own code.

Can it be glazed? Yes, with genuine Ray-Ban single vision or progressive lenses. Send us your prescription and we will quote you.

Does it include case and cloth? Yes: official Ray-Ban rigid case, cleaning cloth and a microfibre cloth as a gift.
